About

The University of Central Asia Cambridge Scholarship is available for Masters and PhD applicants from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan. Priority will be given to applicants from the University of Central Asia's Founding States: the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Kazajhstan.  

The scholarship is tenable at any College of the University of Cambridge and in the following fields: Computer Science; Media & Communications; Earth and Environmental Sciences, Development Economics; Engineering, Cultural Heritage and Society and Public Policy. This award does not include premium rate courses.

Please note, you must apply via an external application to the funding partner as well as opting into this fund in the funding section of the Cambridge admissions application in order to be considered.

All: UCA reimburses the initial economy airfare to the UK and will reimburse up to one return economy flight per academic year between the student's country of residence and the UK, based on the lowest available fare and at UCA's discretion.

PhD only: The Trust will, on application, provide up to a further 6 months of maintenance funding to support writing up the PhD.

Financial need (including Hardship) Academic merit

Each scholarship recipient will be required to work for a certain number of years, after completion of their studies at the University of Cambridge, either at UCA or within the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), subject to suitable employment being available. The duration of this commitment period will be two years for scholarship recipients, who gained a Masters or MPhil degree, and four years for those who gained a PhD degree.

UCA will execute an agreement with all the specific terms and conditions with each of the recipients.

Key dates

To ensure that they are considered for this scholarship, applicants must: 1) check with the University of Central Asia the funding call deadlines and details of the application process, and apply accordingly; and 2) apply for admission to the University of Cambridge by the funding deadline specific to their course (please refer to the Postgraduate Course Directory).

The Trust’s awarding period runs from the middle of February to the end of July and is an ongoing process throughout that period. Most of our awards are made early during the months of February and March, but some of our partner funded awards involve additional processes such as interviews, which means funding decisions tend to be later from April to June. Although we cannot provide funding updates for individual applicants, the Trust will confirm on our website once we have finished issuing offers for our main scholarship programmes. Throughout the awarding period the Trust will be reallocating awards that have not been taken up. Therefore, all applicants will remain under consideration for any reallocated award for which they are eligible until the end of July. If you have not been contacted by the Trust by the end of July, you should assume that your funding application has not been successful.
