Established to provide full or partial funding for one postgraduate student undertaking research in the sciences or mathematics; either PhD, MPhil or MRes. The studentship is open to UK, EU and overseas applicants.

Please note this studentship may not be awarded in every year.

Course length

The College offers this award either fully-funded (covering University Composition Fee and student maintenance) or partially-funded. The duration of the award is dependant on the type of degree. PhD studentships are for 9 terms and MRes, MPhil awards are for 3 terms.

Academic merit

Students will be required to submit an annual report on their postgraduate studies, which will be shared with the donor to demonstrate how their donation has been used.  Extracts from their report may also be used in publications to attract future funders and, on occasion, to illustrate the College’s fundraising strategy.

To be considered for this award applicants must:

  • have indicated on their postgraduate application that they wish to apply for funding in the funding section
  • have been offered membership at Trinity Hall for the 2025-26 academic year by 10 March 2025 to be considered in the first round of awards. Applications received after this date may be considered if funding is still available.


This studentship is only open to applicants who wish to undertake research in the sciences or mathematics: either PhD, MRes or MPhil.
