About

The Chevening/Cambridge Scholarship is available to Masters applicants from all Chevening eligible countries. 

The scholarship is tenable at any College of the University of Cambridge and in any subject, excluding premium rate courses.

Offered in partnership with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office / Chevening.

Please note, you must apply via an external application to the funding partner as well as opting into this fund in the funding section of the Cambridge admissions application in order to be considered.

Applicants must:

  • Demonstrate the potential to rise to positions of leadership and influence. They will need to demonstrate that they possess the personal, intellectual and interpersonal attributes reflecting this potential.
  • Intend to return to the country they were selected from at the end of the period of study.
  • Hold a degree that is equivalent to at least a good UK second-class honours degree.
  • Have at least two years’ worth of work experience after graduating from their undergraduate degree.
  • Have not already received or be receiving financial benefit from an HMG funded scholarship.
  • Not hold dual nationality where one nationality is British (other than for nationals exempt from this requirement listed in the Chevening Guidance for Applicants).
  • Not be employees (including interns), employees’ relatives (or former employees who have left employment less than two years before) of His Majesty’s Government including the FCDO (including FCDO Posts), the British Council, MOD, BEIS, DIT and UKVI, the Association of Commonwealth Universities or the Cambridge Trust or the University Cambridge or any of their wholly-owned subsidiaries.

Key dates

To ensure that they are considered for this scholarship, applicants must: 1) check with Chevening the funding call deadlines and details of the application process, and apply accordingly; and 2) apply for admission to the University of Cambridge by the funding deadline specific to their course (please refer to the Postgraduate Course Directory).

The Trust’s awarding period runs from the middle of February to the end of July and is an ongoing process throughout that period. Most of our awards are made early during the months of February and March, but some of our partner funded awards involve additional processes such as interviews, which means funding decisions tend to be later from April to June. Although we cannot provide funding updates for individual applicants, the Trust will confirm on our website once we have finished issuing offers for our main scholarship programmes. Throughout the awarding period the Trust will be reallocating awards that have not been taken up. Therefore, all applicants will remain under consideration for any reallocated award for which they are eligible until the end of July. If you have not been contacted by the Trust by the end of July, you should assume that your funding application has not been successful.
