Funding to enable non-clinical researchers to undertake an interdisciplinary PhD in cardiovascular sciences. Students may be based in any department of the University and will be part of our world-leading Interdisciplinary Research Centre.
Applicants that do not meet all the necessary criteria will not be considered.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview during January 2027. Successful candidates will also need to meet university requirements and be accepted onto a relevant course (usually their supervisor's department). International students are welcome to apply and will need to find an additional source of funding to cover the difference between the home and overseas university composition fee before they will be accepted by the university. We strongly advise that international students check conditions for additional funding applications at the time of applying for the BHF CRE Interdisciplinary Studentship in Cardiovascular Science as deadlines may vary.
The award includes £11K pa for other costs (e.g. consumables, training, travel). A maintenance stipend is paid at the BHF rates.
Awards may only be extended to accommodate extended periods of leave (such as parental leave) or in exceptional circumstances.
In addition to the usual progress reports required of all PhD candidates, successful applicants will be required to spend in line with BHF requirements and to contribute progress and impact information for our reports to the BHF.
Proposed research projects must be in an area of cardiovascular science relating to one of more of the BHF CRE themes and should cross traditional research disciplines and/or involve two or more of the CRE themes.
